219 pp. Original publisher's grey cloth, blue lettering. Stated "First Published September 1926" on the copyright page. Complete with the scarce colour frontispiece by Arthur Rackham.

An uncommon and highly collectible fantasy work by Marie Stopes, writing under her pseudonym Erica Fay. Although Stopes is best remembered for her pioneering social and scientific work, A Road to Fairyland represents a fascinating and unexpected departure into imaginative literature. The volume is particularly sought after due to its association with Arthur Rackham, one of the most celebrated illustrators of the Golden Age of British book illustration. The Rackham colour frontispiece is the book's only illustration and forms a significant part of the title's appeal to both Rackham and fairy-tale collectors. The book is increasingly difficult to find in any state and examples retaining original 1926 publication details are keenly pursued.

Condition is fair. Binding remains structurally sound and text block secure. A substantial section of cloth is missing from the spine, resulting in loss of much of the spine lettering. Boards show general handling wear and light soiling. Rear hinge worn but holding. Felt-tip scribbling to the front endpaper. The frontispiece is present, but the original tissue guard is lacking. Pages otherwise generally clean with expected age toning and occasional light foxing.

Despite its condition issues, this remains a genuine first edition of a scarce Rackham-associated title and offers an affordable opportunity to acquire a desirable Golden Age illustrated book that is increasingly uncommon on the market. Copies in superior condition, particularly those retaining the original dust jacket, command substantially higher prices.
