Banks, Iain. Complicity London: Little, Brown & Company, 1993. First edition, first printing. Signed by the author on the title page. Original black and grey striped cloth boards lettered in silver to spine. With the original unclipped dust jacket. A fine example of Banks's controversial fourth mainstream novel. While Iain Banks is also famous for his science fiction (written as Iain M. Banks), Complicity is one of his most powerful mainstream ("literary") novels. It builds on themes from earlier works like The Wasp Factory but with greater political and social realism.

The novel's central question is how individuals are implicated, directly or indirectly, in wrongdoing.

Banks examines institutional power: media, politics, and elite networks, and how they shield wrongdoing. The murders are framed not as random violence but as a reaction to systemic injustice.
