Scott, Dixon. Jolly Jack Tart. Cressrelles, 1974, First edition, First Impression. Condition:Original boards in original unclipped dust jacket priced £2.50. Jacket: bright and complete with minor rubbing to extremities and light age-toning to rear panel and flaps. Book: clean and sound. A very good copy of this uncommon Royal Navy novel. A scarce Royal Navy novel by Dixon Scott, Jolly Jack Tart follows the fortunes of Hubert Cronkin, a young man drawn from civilian life into the demanding and often comic world of the Lower Deck. Set amongst the crews of Britain's small naval vessels, the novel combines humour, adventure and authentic naval detail, charting Cronkin's efforts to find his place at sea and ultimately earn his commission. Scott, himself a distinguished naval writer, brings first-hand knowledge to a lively and affectionate portrayal of Royal Navy life. Published by Cressrelles in 1974, the book is considerably less common than many contemporary naval novels and is increasingly sought after by collectors of maritime fiction and Royal Navy literature.
