Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936). Puck of Pook's Hill. London: Macmillan & Co., Ltd., 1906. First edition.

An attractive first edition of one of Kipling's most enduring historical fantasies, blending folklore, history and storytelling through the character of Puck, who guides two children through England's past. A cornerstone work of Edwardian children's literature and an important title in the Kipling canon.

Condition: Very Good. Original publisher's binding, retaining strong colour and gilt. Light rubbing and handling wear consistent with age. Binding sound and text clean throughout, unmarked and clean; No dust jacket. A well-preserved example of this increasingly sought-after first edition.

Provenance: From the personal library of Sir Geoffrey Howe, Baron Howe of Aberavon, former Chancellor of the Exchequer and Foreign Secretary. With the distinctive Geoffrey and Elspeth Howe library bookplate tipped in to the front pastedown. Further provenance information available upon request.

A particularly desirable copy combining literary significance with notable political provenance.
